Tablet and Smartphone Integration with Current MFDs

Here is a quick rundown on using your smartphone or tablet with the four major manufacturers of most current MFDs and a listing of the apps they have provided.

Furuno:  Currently, Furuno only offers solutions for Apple products and only with their most current line, the TZ Touch.  Wi-Fi is built into the MFD so, there is no need to purchase any additional hardware.

NavNet Remote App.  An iPad only app that allows you to operate your system remotely with the iPad.


NavNet Viewer App.  This app allows you to conveniently view information shared wirelessly by the NavNet TZTouch network on your Apple mobile products and is compatible with the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.

 

Garmin:  Also only catering to Apple users, Garmin offers two different apps: one compatible with older displays and one for the newest 8000 series displays.  A Garmin Wi-Fi Adapter Kit is required on all installations and costs $199.99.

Garmin Helm App.  An app only for the new 8000 series displays that allows the user to view and control the 8000 series chartplotter from and iPad or iPhone.

Garmin BlueChart Mobile App.  An app that allows you to plan and view routes on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch and allows you to wirelessly transfer those routes to your networked chartplotter.  Will work with most Garmin four-digit chartplotters models.

 

Simrad:  Limited only to the NSS line of chartplotters, the Simrad app is compatible with both Apple and Android devices.  The Simrad GoFree Wi-Fi Adapter Kit is required and sells for $199.99.

Simrad GoFree Controller App.  When used with your smartphone this app repeats your NSS screen.  When used with your tablet you can view and control your NSS chartplotter.

 

Raymarine:  Wi-Fi is built into the latest Raymarine Chartplotters; third generation cSeries, eSeries, gS Series, and Wi-Fi enabled aSeries, and Raymarine apps will work with both Apple and Android devices.

RayView App.  This app allows you to stream your MFD screen directly to your tablet or smartphone.

 

RayControl App.  RayControl transforms your tablet into a full function Raymarine MFD. Remotely control and view electronic charting, sonar, radar, and even thermal night vision, right from your tablet.

RayRemote App.  A smartphone only app that turns your smartphone into a remote for your MFD.
